SASSA Clarifies Soweto Grant Non-Payments, Cites Unresolved Eligibility Reviews

SASSA Clarifies Soweto Grant Non-Payments, Cites Unresolved Eligibility Reviews. The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has explained why some grant beneficiaries in Soweto did not receive their payments today. The agency says most of the affected people were flagged for a review but had not responded to it.

SASSA says these reviews are a legal requirement. They are done to check whether beneficiaries still qualify for government assistance. The agency wants to make it clear that grants are not automatically cancelled. Beneficiaries are always given a chance to confirm their situation before any final decision is made.

So far, 432 reviews have been completed. SASSA spokesperson Lungelo Mkamba says that once a review is finished, payments will be fully restored for those who qualify.

Mkamba urged affected people not to wait and to sort out their payment issues as soon as possible.

“The integrity of the social assistance system has to be maintained for those who need it the most. If you believe your grant may be under review, please visit your nearest SASSA office with your identity document and any relevant supporting documents. Don’t delay,” he said.

If you are affected, take your ID and any supporting documents to your nearest SASSA office as soon as possible to avoid further delays in receiving your grant.
